Worries of Radiation from Fukushima Reaching Singapore


The March 11 Tsumani and Earthquake in Japan not only rattled the lives of Japan citizens, but had near by nations worrying about their safetie. Singpore, which is over 3,000 miles away from Japan, had concern about being affected by the radiation from the Fukuskima nuclear power plant.

However, when the S.A.S. student docked in Singapore on March 22, news reports assured that there were very low levels of radiation being reported. A group of government agencies and minstries have been conducting around the clock monitoring of the radiation level.

Singapore is careful of its import from Japan currently, especialyy food, which it is not accepting.

‘Win against India was good for us'


A match of World Cup of Cricket, a sport which is huge in many countries which Semester at Sea traveled to, was held in Chennai, India in early March. This was Chennai's third time ever hosting a World Cup game in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The stadium holds a capacity of 50,000, which is made possible by its 2011 renovations made especially for the 2011 ICC World Cup.

REFILE-UPDATE 2-Ghana inflation rises for first time in 19 mths

The United States is not the only place facing challenges with oil. In February the inflation rate in Ghana rose in late January; the increasing proce of petroleum is to blame for the uprising.  The National Petroleum Association annouced a 30% increase in petroleum for the country of Ghana in late January. In addition, the worth of the cedi, Ghana's official currency has weakened.

US embassy cables: Bahamas deepens ties with China <--- Leak of government data

The Bahamian governemnt made a trip to China most recently in Janaury of 2011. The government has planned for a group to visit in August for a multiday trip to China, most likely to discuss "business oppurtunities and diplomatic ties." Bahama's importance is said to increase in the world, by building ties with superpower China. This relationship was thought to have began during the 200- 2007 term of Prime Minister Perry Christie.
